123dmake gets a little confused at times.

This was the model I was most happy with. I tried many many versions with off axis slices and a few of them looked quite good but few were actually going to be possible to build without the use of glue.

While almost all of the angular arrays will need redesigning in illustrator I think many could be worth the effort as the highly organic forms it generates relate back to my mood board so much more comfortably than the more geometric forms I get from the vertical array tool.

This form was based on the curled leaf with crochet sewn into the ends to hold it. While I certainly don't feel it touches on any of the aesthetic elements of the leaf work it does touch on elements from the folding furniture. I think to reference the leaf crochet work one would need to get much further into exploring unconventional materials which is not a strong area for 123dmake.

Just for curiosity I might make an object that is coiled like the leaf was and see if I can use 123d make to cut a flat template.

It is impossible to realize this with 123d make slice technique but it would take well to 3d printing.
Incorporates the folding table forms and the crochet leaf.

These are the objects I originally made in illustrator to be laser cut but now remodeled in Rhino to make them 3d printable.

This is a variant that has locking pins integrated into the form. This would allow the unit to be self supporting and stack-able in any form. Ideally the pins would have a locking action.

zome struts

These are two possible ways of joining the struts. On the left is a design using lacing and on the right is a more typical laser cut joint.

forms

This form really captures my interest. It reminds me of "zomes"

I like how pleasing the curves are considering they are cut from straight lines.
